Aircraft History Built by Douglas Aircraft Company. Constructors Number 27271. At the factory, completed with a natural aluminum finish. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as C-54E-1-DO Skymaster serial number 44-9045. Ferried overseas across the Pacific to the South West Pacific Area (SWPA). Above the fuselage windows "The Air Transport Command" in block letters. Wartime History On August 19, 1945 embarked a Japanese surrender delegation at Ie Shima Airfield and took off on a flight to Manila to meet with the staff of General MacArthur to work out details for the official surrender of Japan scheduled for September 2, 1945. Afterwards, the Japanese surrender delegation was flown back to Ie Shima Airfield, likely aboard this same aircraft. Fate On July 13, 1970 placed into outdoor storage at Military Aircraft Storage and Disposition Center (MASDC) until scrapped.
