Aircraft History Built by Aichi completed October 24, 1942. Delivered to the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) as Type 99 Carrier Bomber Kanbaku / D3A2 Model 22 Val manufacture number 3033. Wartime History Assigned to the 582 Kōkūtai (582 Air Group) based at Lae Airfield. This Val was estimated to have crashed on or before January 16, 1943 then was abandoned. Wreckage On September 16, 1943 this Val was captured by the Australian Army. Later investigated by Allied Technical Intelligence Unit (ATIU) that noted the manufacture number.
