Aircraft History Built by de Havilland Canada in Toronto. Constructors Number 147. This Caribou was one of the first three aircraft ferried from Toronto to Australia. During the 97 hour ferry flight, a long range fuel tank was installed. On March 12, 1964 delivered to the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) as DHC-4 Caribou Serial Number A4-147. On April 22, 1964 arrived at RAAF Richmond and assigned to 2 Air Depot (2 AD). On April 30, 1964 assigned to No. 86 Wing. On May 12, 1966 assigned to No. 35 Squadron. On June 12, 1967 assigned to No. 38 Squadron. On November 1967 to de Havilland at Bankstown Airport. On January 24, 1968 returned to No. 38 Squadron. On October 6, 1968 took off on a flight bound for Tapini Airfield. While attempting to land, crashed and was written off. Afterwards, converted to components. Afterwards, used as a field training aid. Ultimate fate unknown, likely scrapped.
