Background
Designed by Kawanishi for the IJN (IJN) as Type 94 Reconnaissance Seaplane / E7K. Allied code name "Alf". First flight February 6, 1933 and was accepted in 1934 and entered production with a variety of radial engines in different models.
Wartime History
The seaplane operated from warships, shore bases and were used for a variety of roles including anti-submarine patrols and
convoy escort duty. Used during the Second Sino-Japanese War in China and the early phases of the Pacific War. By 1943, replaced by the Aichi Type 0 Reconnaissance Seaplane Reisen Shiki Sui Tei / E13A1(Jake).
Entered production
in 1934, this rugged by obsolete reconnaissance seaplane used
in China and throughout the Pacific until 1943, until it was replaced
by the E13A1 Jake. Built with a variety of both radial and inline engines, these
planes operated from ships, shore bases and were used for anti-submarine duty and
convoy escort duty.

Production version with a Hiro Type 91 520 hp water-cooled W-12 engine. A total of 183 were built including 57 built by Nippon Hikoki K.K. E7K2
Navy Type 94 Reconnaissance Seaplane Model 2 with a Mitsubishi Zuisei 11 radial engine. A total of 350 were built including 60 by Nippon Hikoki K.K.
