Background
The Najajima Type 95 Reconnaissance Seaplane Model 1 / E8N (Dave) was an Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) catapult launched reconnaissance seaplane that operated from seaplane tenders, battleships and cruisers. The type actually scored aerial victories during the second Sino-Japanese war, where it sometimes was used for dive bombing, reconnaissance or spotting. At the start of the Pacific War, the E8N was being phased out of service and replaecd by the F1M2 Pete and E13A1 Jake but remaned in use in the early stages of the war and remained in use for second-line duty.

A total of 775 E8N's were built between 1934–1940.
