Pilot Lt. Yasuo Ando (MIA) Observer FPO2c Saburo Asama (MIA) MIA November 30, 1941 Aircraft History Built by Watanabe Ironworks. Delivered to the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) as Type 96 Small Reconnaissance Seaplane / E9W1 (Slim) manufacture number unknown. During early November 1941 assigned to Japanese submarines I-10. On November 16, 1941 departs with the submarine on her first war patrol bound for the South Pacific. Mission History On November 30, 1941 launched from Japanese submarines I-10 off Fiji on a reconnaissance mission over Suva Bay off Suva on Viti Levu Island in Fiji. The floatplane reports no enemy warships and fails to return. When this floatplane fails to return, both crew members were listed as Missing In Action (MIA). Search For three days, Japanese submarines I-10 searches for the missing floatplane and crew without results while maintaining radio silence then reports the loss to the Sixth Fleet.
