Aircraft History Built by North American Aviation (NAA). Constructors Number 161-266. Delivered to the U.S. Air Force (USAF) as F-86A-5-NA Sabre serial number 49-1272. Korean War History Assigned to the 4th Fighter Interceptor Group (FIG). During 1951, the tail of this Sabre was photographed behind Major George A. Davis, Jr. in flight gear. On December 4, 1951 damaged in air combat with MiG-15s but returned safely and was repaired. Afterwards to the National Museum of the United States Air Force (USAF Museum). Then to the California Air National Guard, 144th Fighter Wing at Fresno Yosemite International Airport in Fresno, CA. Display This Sabre is displayed Fresno Yosemite International Airport in the 144th Fighter Wing area. The jet is painted in the markings of the Air National Guard (ANG) with nickname "Ole Leroy" and "The Bald Eagle" with the nose art of a black bird. The jet has a yellow nose with black lines at each edge, diagonal fuselage stripe in yellow with black lines at each edge and upper tail and wingtips in yellow. During the 1990s, displayed with the landing gear retracted atop three pylons in a grass area. At that time, the fuselage diagonal stripe had three thicker black lines. By 2010, displayed with landing gear extended atop three concrete pads in a gravel walled area.
