Aircraft History Built by Grumman as a model G-36 with manually operated folding wings. Delivered to the United States Navy (USN) as F4F-4 Wildcat bureau number 5200. Wartime History Assigned to the U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) to Marine Fighting Squadron 212 (VMF-212) "Hell Hounds / The Musketeers". No known nickname or nose art. Mission History On November 11, 1942 took off from Henderson Field on Guadalcanal and crashed. Wreckage The tail and rudder was salvaged and is displayed at Markwarth Collection (Solomon Islands War Museum). The left side of the tail has black stenciled "NAVY 5200". The tail rudder has traces of the fabric rudder with red and white stripes visible.
