F4U Corsair 17804 fuselage with U.S. star outlined in red crashed in southern Bougainville
Caption: "An American pilot, Lieutenant Pilsbury [sic Pillsbury], flew this Corsair fighter from a United States aircraft carrier near Torokina [sic, Ondonga Airfield], off the Bougainville coast. He was lost without a trace over the Japanese base at Buin in September, 1943 [sic November 21, 1943]. Twenty-five years later his plane and remains were discovered by chance nearly 500 metres from a road in thick jungle near Buin."
