F4U Corsair 17884 after being righted after landing at Torokina Airfield
The tail was crushed during the crash. The fuselage U.S. star and bar insignia and code 884 are visible. On the left wing, the ammunition bay door is open, with U.S. personnel standing nearby. On the opposite side of the runway is a line of fuel bowser trucks and beyond coconut palm trees.
