Pilot 2nd Lt. James R. Misley,
O-031535 (KIA) Crashed March 10, 1945 Aircraft History Built by Vought. Delivered to the U.S. Navy (USN) as F4U-1 Corsair bureau number 02421. Disassembled and shipped overseas to the South Pacific (SoPAC) and reassembled. Wartime History Assigned to the U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) to squadron VMF-122. No known nickname or nose art. Mission History On March 10, 1945 took off from Peleliu Airfield. This aircraft was shot down and impacted a hill near Ngatpang into jungle on Babeldaob. Wreckage During April 2002, the wreckage of this Corsair was located by Bent Prop during their P-MAN IV expedition, finding the last three digits of the bureau number "807". Memorials Misley was officially declared dead the day of the mission. He is buried at Golden Gate National Cemetery at section N, site 2422.
