John J. Marcil on the steps of Catholic Central High School off 8th Street in Troy, NY
Today, West Hall Building on the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) campus. During 1942, Marcil joined the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) and was trained as an electrician and served aboard Submarine Chaser PC-556 in the Mediterranean Theater of Operations (MTO) and USS LST-169 in the Pacific Theater of Operations (PTO).
