The Troy Record "Troy Marine, Fighter Pilot, Died in Action" July 26, 1945
"Lt. John Francis McGrath, U.S. M. C. son of Edward McGrath and Mary Rafferty McGrath of 744 River Street was killed in action on July 21 [1945] in the western Pacific according to word received here. The Marine officer was a fighter pilot flying with a "Corsair" unit."
