Aircraft History
Built by Grumman as Model G-50 in Bethpage, New York. Delivered to the U.S. Navy (USN) as F6F-5 Hellcat bureau number 58638.

Wartime History
Assigned to the USS Enterprise (CV-6) to Fighting Squadron 20 (VF-20). No known nickname or nose art.

Mission History
On November 22, 1944 took off from USS Enterprise (CV-6) piloted by Lt. Zack F. Lillard Jr. on a mission against Yap. Over the target, hit by anti-aircraft fire. When this aircraft failed to return it was officially listed as Missing In Action (MIA).

Memorials
Lillard was officially declared dead on November 23, 1945. He earned the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC), Air Medal and Purple Heart, posthumously. Lillard is memorialized at National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific (Punchbowl) on the court of the missing, court 3. He also has a memorial marker at Sparkman Hillcrest Memorial Park in Dallas, TX.
