Aircraft History
Built by Grumman as model G-50 in Bethpage, New York. Delivered to the U.S. Navy (USN) as F6F-5 Hellcat Bureau Number 70222. Postwar, sold as surplus.

By 1955, derelict at Fergus Falls Airport, MN. During 1961 acquired by Joe Dvorak and towed from Fergus Falls Airport. Next, owned by John R. Sandberg of Minneapolis, MN. and restored to airworthy condition and registered as N1078Z. On October 25, 1965 while landing, overturned due to engine failure and was damaged.

During 1972, acquired by Lloyd P. Nolan of Confederate Air Force (CAF) at Harlingen, TX. In 1973 acquired by Ed Messick. In 1986, restored to airworthy condition at Midland-Mabee Ranch, TX. During taxi trails accidentally hit by a car and damaged. In 1990 transfered to the Confederate Air Force (CAF). In 1998 returned to airworthy status.

On January 1, 2002 became the Commemorative Air Force (CAF). This Hellcat was painted in the markings of F6F "Minsi III" 70143 assigned to Commander David McCampbell and displayed at Commemorative Air Force (CAF) Camarillo Southern California Wing in Camarillo, CA.
