Aircraft History
Built by Mitsubishi at Nagoya No. 3 Works during February 1942. Delivered to the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN). Assigned to an unknown Kōkūtai. No known tail markings.
Wartime History
During 1942 or 1943, this Betty force landed or crashed close to the Busu River near Lae.
Wreckage
During 1976, the crash site remained in situ broken into pieces from the impact. The left outer wing was particularly well intact. Sometime afterwards likely scrapped or otherwise disappeared.
Michael Claringbould adds:
"In 1976 I surveyed the wreckage of a G4M1 near Lae. We never asked the villagers about bones, and they never mentioned recovering crew, probably they are still there."
