Background
Built by  Fairey Aviation Company.  Developed in response to the 1945 Admiralty requirement GR.17/45 as a carrier aircraft for the Royal Navy Fleet Air Army (FAA) with tricycle undercarriage and a double turoprop engine driving contra-rotating propellers for anti-submarine warfare and as a strike aircraft.
