Technical Information

Background
Designed and built by Kawasaki. The Japanese Army Air Force (JAAF) Type 2 Two-Seat Fighter/ Ki-45 Toryu meaning "Dragon Killer" or "Dragonslayer". This versatile successful fighter was used for ground attack, anti-shipping strikes and later to intercept B-29 Superfortress bombers over Japan.

The Ki-45 had a variety of armament configurations including 12.7mm machine guns or a 20mm cannon or 37mm cannon in the nose. The Type 94 37mm cannon was reloaded manually by the rear gunner. Later, armed with obliquely mounted upward firing cannons behibd the pilot to engage bombers.
