Aircraft History
Built by Mitsubishi. Delivered to the Japanese Army Air Force (JAAF) as either a Type 99 Reconnaissance Plane / Ki-51A Sonia or Type 99 Assault Plane / Ki-51B Sonia manufacture number unknown.

Wartime History
Assigned to an unknown Sentai and operated from Babo Airfield. Likely, this Sonia was damaged on the ground and stripped for usable parts then abandoned at Babo Airfield.

Wreckage
Until the early 1980s, this Sonia remained in situ at Babo Airfield. The engine cowl was missing and the cockpit canopy glass was missing part of the frame and canopy missing. By the late 1970s, traces of the original green paint remained on the upper surfaces and the fuselage Hinomaru was visible. By 1976, one of the propeller blades was cut off at the base.

Salvage
During the 1980s, this aircraft was salvaged to the tarmac area of Babo Airfield then transported to the Indonesian Air Force Museum (AURI) at Yogyakarta Airport.

Restoration
This Sonia was restored by the Indonesian Air Force Museum (AURI) to static condition and painted in the markings of the Indonesian Air Force (AURI) with tail number "G32" representing a surrendered Japanese aircraft used during the Indonesian National Revolution between August 17, 1945 to December 27, 1949.

Display
Later, restored to static condition and painted in the markings of the Indonesian Air Force (AURI) with tail number "G32" representing a surrendered Japanese aircraft used during the Indonesian National Revolution between August 17, 1945 to December 27, 1949. This Sonia is displayed in the Indonesian Air Force Museum (AURI).
