At the center left on the left side of the nose is stenciled "10", the last two digits of the Lockheed Constructors Number (LAC) 322-3310. At the upper right is the left propeller blade with stenciled "43-2201 L. H.". The aircraft has lines are tape marks from cosmoline used to protect the aircraft when shipped from the United States to Australia.
This aircraft was lost piloted by 2nd Lt. Earl W. Smith who took off P-38G Lightning 43-2201 on August 20, 1943 that crashed 300 yards off Paga Point and was listed as Missing In Action. On October 13, 1943 pilot 1st Lt. Theron D. Price took off piloting P-38H "Charlcie Jeann" 42-66516 and went Missing In Action (MIA) on a mission against Rabaul.
