P-38H "Charlcie Jeann" 42-66516 parked at airfield with crew
On the left side of the nose is the nickname "Charlcie Jeann" and a in an old English style font. Nose number 84 with smaller stenciled constructors number 1027. Painted on the left side of the cockpit was "Lt. J. A. Watkins" with Japanese rising sun flags (5x5x1) representing his eleven aerial victory claims as of August 2, 1943. Based on the scoreboard and date of loss, this photograph was taken sometime between August 2, 1943 when he claimed his ninth, tenth and eleventh victory claiming three Oscars over Teliata Point near Saidor until October 13, 1943 when lost in bad weather piloted by 1st Lt. Theron D. Price and went Missing In Action (MIA).
