Aircraft History Built by Bell in Buffalo, New York. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as P-39D-1-BE Airacobra serial number 41-38379. Disassembled and shipped overseas to the South Pacific and reassembled. Wartime History Assigned to the 13th Air Force (13th AF), 18th Fighter Group (18th FG), 44th Fighter Squadron (44th FS) "Vampire Squadron". Assigned to pilot C. B. Head. No known nose art or nickname. Painted with a white fuselage strip behind the cockpit just ahead of the U.S. star. Nose Number '55' on the left and right sides of the nose. Operated from Henderson Field on Guadalcanal. Ultimate fate unknown, not lost in combat or accident, likely scrapped or otherwise disappeared.
