Aircraft History
Built by Bell in Buffalo, New York. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as P-39D-2-BE Airacobra serial number 41-38499. Disassembled and shipped overseas to Australia and reassembled.

Wartime History
Assigned to the 5th Air Force (5th AF), 8th Fighter Group (8th FG), 80th Fighter Squadron (80th FS). No known nose art or nickname. Nose letter "E". No known nose art or nickname. Sometime before January 17, 1943, this Airacobra suffered a landing accident that collapsed the left landing gear leg and caused it to skid on the left wing at Turnbull Airfield (No.3 Strip) near Milne Bay.

On January 17, 1943 at 12:40pm during a Japanese air raid the front half of this Airacobra was burned while parked at Turnbull Airfield (No.3 Strip). Afterwards, the burning wreckage was photographed. Ultimate fate unknown likely scrapped or otherwise disappeared.
