Pilot 2nd Lt. Charles E. Frush, O-739273 (MIA / KIA) MI Crashed July 27, 1943 at 1230 MACR 151 Aircraft History Built by Bell in Buffalo, New York. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as P-39D-BE Airacobra serial number 41-7112. Disassembled and shipped overseas to the South Pacific (SoPAC) and reassembled in Fiji. Wartime History Assigned to the 13th Air Force (13th AF), 18th Fighter Group (18th FG), 12th Fighter Squadron (12th FS). No known nickname or nose art. When lost, engine V-1710-35 serial number 41-34656. Weapon serial numbers unknown. Mission History On July 27, 1943 took off from Fighter 2 (Kukum) on Guadalcanal piloted by 2nd Lt. Charles E. Frush on a strafing mission over Rekata Bay and was observed to crash. Weather was clear and visibility unlimited. Officially condemned on July 27, 1943. Memorials Frush earned the Air Medal and Purple Heart, posthumously. He is memorialized at Manila American Cemetery on the tablets of the missing.
