Roberts spent his 21 day leave with the Australian Army's 2/16th Infantry Battalion, 21st Infantry Brigade and fought along side them on the ridge. On January 12, 1944 Roberts went Missing In Action (MIA) piloting P-39Q Airacobra 42-19949
