Aircraft History Built by Bell in Buffalo, New York. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as P-39D Airacobra serial number 41-????? (last five digits unknown). Disassembled and shipped overseas to Australia and reassembled. Wartime History Assigned to the 5th Air Force (5th AF). No known nose art or nickname. On January 17, 1943 during a Japanese air raid this Airacobra was destroyed on the ground at Gurney Airfield (No.1 Strip). Contribute
