On December 15, 1941 delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as P-40E Warhawk serial number 41-5543. On On December 30, 1941 assigned to "Project X". Disassembled and shipped overseas bound for the Philippines but while in transit diverted to Australia arriving Jaunary 30, 1942 and reassembled. Wartime History Assigned to the 5th Air Force (5th AF), 49th Fighter Group, 8th Fighter Squadron. Assigned to Lt. Clyde H. Barnett and nicknamed "Janet" with squadron number 55. Mission History On June 7, 1942 took off from Darwin and ditched into shallow water at the surf line off the Cox Peninsula. Officially, this P-40 was written off on June 16, 1942.
