Built by Curtiss in Buffalo, New York. Constructors Number ?????. Assigned U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as P-40E Warhawk serial number 41-5525. Disassembled and shipped overseas to Australia as part of lend-lease.
Wartime History
During March 1942 delivered to the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) as Kittyhawk A29-36. On April 1, 1942 assigned to No. 76 Squadron. No known nickname or nose art. This P-40 operated from Gurney Airfield (No. 1 Strip) near Milne
Bay.
Mission History
On August 11, 1942 took off from Gurney Airfield (No. 1 Strip) near Milne Bay piloted unknown on a mission to intercept incoming Japanese aircraft. This aircraft was officially written off the day of the mission.
