Aircraft History BuiBuilt by North American Aircraft (NAA) in Dallas, Texas. North American General Assembly Number: 106-00002 (NA 122) Constructors Number 122-31401. North American Aviation Ship Number 516. On November 27, 1944 delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as P-51D-20-NA Mustang serial number 44-63675. Disassembled and departing on January 29, 1945 bound for Europe. Wartime History In early April 1945, arrived at Y-32 Ophoven, near Zwartburg, Belgium and was reassembled. Assigned to the 9th Air Force (9th AF), 370th Fighter Group (370th FG), 402nd Fighter Squadron (402nd FS) to pilot 1st Lt. Robert Bohna. Nicknamed "Sierra Sue II" in a cursive font on the left side of the nose with fuselage code E6-D. This aircraft flew combat missions over Germany until April 25, 1945. Afterwards, assigned to the Swedish Air Force and later the Fuerza Aérea Nicaragüense (Nicaraguan Air Force). In 1971, returned to the United States and registered with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as N5452V and was modified by Dave Allender of Hayward, California in an attempt to break a low altitude closed course speed record, but no attempt was made. In 1977 acquired by Dr. Roger Christgau of MN who owned the Mustang until 2011. This aircraft was restored by AirCorps Aviation (Air Corps Aviation) to flying condition and was painted in accurate wartime markings. First flight September 18, 2014. The completed Mustang appeared at EAA AirVenture 2015. On February 3, 2017 registered with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as N1751D owned by Rare Birds LLC, 5715 W. Old Shakopee Road, Suite 150, Bloomington, MN. On February 4, 2018 this Mustang was flown by pilot Steve Hinton and made a flyover of U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota before Superbowl LII.
