Aircraft History Built by North American Aviation (NAA). On September 11, 1945 delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as XP-82 Twin Mustang serial number 44-83887. Afterwards, returned to NAA for further testing. On March 18, 1946 returned to the USAAF with code PQ-887 and later FQ-887. On September 18, 1947 assigned to the U.S. Air Force (USAF). During October 1947 assigned to NACA Aircraft Engine Research Laboratory at Lewis Field in Cleveland, OH. Used for high altitude performance tests and later Marquardt ram jet engines. On February 25, 1950 while landing, slid off an icy runway and was damaged. Afterwards, in the middle 1950s sold to Mr. Walter Soplata and was part of the Walter Soplata Collection in Newbury, OH. Afterwards, acquired by Mr. Tom Reilly and restored at Tom Reilly's Flying Tigers Warbird Museum at Kissimmee Airport, FL and later Douglas, Georgia. Registered as N887XP to B-25 Group LLC in Titusville, FL. The aircraft has a natural aluminum finish with yellow spinners with tail "483887" and below "N887XP". This plane is one of five surviving XP-82/F-82 the remain to this day. On December 31, 2018 the restored aircraft piloted by Ray Fowler was performing a high speed taxi and made an unplanned flight when briefly flown during FAA testing. On January 28, 2019 first flight by Ray Fowler after restoration in Douglas, Georgia. The restored XP-82 was shown at the Sun-N-Fun in April 2019 then EAA AirVenture Oshkosh. The restored plane is owned by XP-82 Twin Mustang Project. This aircraft is on loan and displayed at Valiant Air Command Museum (Warbird Air Museum).
