The Syonan Shimbun [The Singapore Newspaper] "Two enemy B-24s, One PB4Y2 Shot Down in Waters Off Malai Coast" No. 782 Friday June [1, 1945]
"Wednesday and Friday's Interception Grimly pursuing the three of four enemy B-24's which, on Wednesday morning, failed in their attempt to penetrate the malas over Syonan [Singapore], being turned back by our fierce air interception, Flight Pilot Sergeant Okubayashi at about 1 p.m. the same day caught up with the enemy heavy bombers over the sea of Kuantan on the East Coast of the Malai [Malay] Peninsula and definitely shot down one enemy plane. Syonan Defence Head Headquarters disclosed at 10:30 this morning that Nippon fighters brught down a PB4Y2 and a B-24 over waters south of Syonan this morning. These two enemy planes were intercepted when the Syonan area from the direction of north east at abut 9:30 a.m. this morning. No damage was suffered by our side."
