On October 23, 1943 pilot SBD-3 Dauntless 03359 shot down by anti-aircraft fire over Kieta Airfield on Bougainville bailed out and was captured and became a Prisoner Of War (POW) at Rabaul and survived captivity until the end of the Pacific War.
