Aircraft History Built by Douglas Aircraft Company in El Segundo. Constructors Number unknown. Delivered to the U.S. Navy (USN) as SBD-3 Dauntless Bureau Number unknown. Wartime History Assigned to the U.S. Navy (USN) or U.S. Marine Corps (USMC). This SBD abandoned or crashed on Aore Island. Wreckage During 2000, wreckage from this SBD was found by a group of local people. Afterwards, "Americans" carried the tail section out of the jungle, for display at Aore Resort. Jean Claude Tranape visited during 2001: "They do not know the story of this plane, but they said that it has a total of 4 planes crashed in the jungle. To day, only one plane was found because the jungle is very dense. The 3 others were not discovered. We will come back later."
