Aircraft History Built by Supermarine at Westland with a Griffon VI engine. Delivered to the Royal Navy (RN) to Fleet Air Arm (FAA) as Seafire Mark XV serial number SW853. Assigned to HMS Theseus (R64) to No. 804 Squadron. No known markings or code. On October 15, 1946 damaged in a collision or landing accident. Afterwards, left at Hobsonville Airfield and used as an instructional airframe for the Aircraft Finisher's School, where airmen where trained to paint planes. While in New Zealand, repainted with fuselage code A-CF with a white stripe on the rear fuselage with 2. Sometime after September 1953, this Seafire was broken up for scrap. References Charles Darby adds: "I have heard stories that there was a second Seafire in NZ at the same time, but have never seen photos showing two together to confirm this. One of the Seafires (if indeed two were here) was SW815." Thanks to Charles Darby and Fred Waldron for additional information Contribute
