Pilot Ensign Donald Allison (rescued) Gunner Y3C Willis A. Barber (rescued) Crashed June 16, 1943 Aircraft History Built by the Naval Aircraft Factory (NAF) during 1940. Delivered to the U.S. Navy (USN) as SON-1 Seagull bureau number 1184. Assigned to USS Cleveland (CL-55) to Cruiser Scouting Squadron 12 (VCS-12) No known nickname, nose art or markings. Mission History On June 16, 1943 took off from Havannah Harbor Seaplane Base piloted by Ensign Donald Allison with gunner Y3C Willis A. Barber on a routine flight. While landing into Havannah Harbor hit a launch assigned to repair ship USS Medusa (AR-1) and sank. Fates of the Crew Afterwards, both crew were rescued and returned to duty.
