Aircraft History Built by Supermarine in the United Kingdom. Assigned Royal Air Force (RAF) as Spitfire Type F Mark Vc serial number JG807. Disassembled and loaded aboard SS Tijuga and shipped overseas to Australia arriving on April 13, 1943. Wartime History Assigned to the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) as Spitfire Mark Vc and retained RAF serial number JG807. On May 1, 1943 reassembled by 1 Air Depot (1 AD). On May 15, 1943 assigned to No. 79 Squadron coded UP-P with a white tail. On June 2, 1943 returned to 1 Air Depot (1 AD) for temperate cowling modification and removal of tropical Volks intake. Four days later, returned to No. 79 Squadron. During August 1943 began operating from Kiriwina Airfield. During November 1943, retroactively assigned RAAF serial number A58-176. On January 5, 1944 at 4:30pm while taxing at Kiriwina Airfield piloted by P/O R. V. E. Nathan, 418458 with a 90 gallon auxiliary fuel tank attached veered to the left side of the taxiway and despite a correction, the left undercarriage to collapse and injured an LAC P. H. Scott who was sitting on the wing to guide the pilot. During March 1944 moved with the squadron to Momote Airfield on Los Negros. On September 18, 1944 received by 6 Air Depot (6 AD). On April 4, 1945 assigned to No. 85 Squadron. Postwar On October 10, 1945 returned to 6 Air Depot (6 AD). On November 28, 1945 to 3 CRD. On May 16, 1946 placed into storage at Oakey Airfield. On May 22, 1946 authorized for write off. On November 26, 1947 to DAP. On November 15, 1948 stricken off charge. Ultimate fate unknown, likely sold for disposal or broken up for scrap.
