On September 16, 1943
this crew was lost aboard TBF Avenger 06452 on a bombing mission against Ballale. Croker was captured and executed as a Prisoner Of War (POW) at Rabaul on February 21, 1944. Both Casper and Schroeder went down with the aircraft, both are officially listed as Missing In Action (MIA).
