Enterline, Jr. 426118 USMCR (MIA / KIA) Punxsutawney, PA MIA June 15, 1944 Aircraft History Built by Grumman as model G-40. Delivered to the U.S. Navy (USN) as TBF-1 Avenger bureau number 24390. Wartime History Assigned to the U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) to Marine Torpedo Bombing Squadron 232 (VMTB-232) "Red Devil". No known nickname, nose art or squadron number. Mission History On June 15, 1944 took off from Emirau Airfield piloted by Captain Clair V. Berdel on a bombing mission against Rapopo Airfield south of Rabaul. Over the target, shot down by anti-airraft fire. When this plane failed to return it was officially listed as Missing In Action (MIA). Memorials Capt Clair Vincent Berdel also has a grave / memorial marker at Glen Abbey Memorial Park in Bonita, CA at lot 3, section 71, block 9. Greathouse Enterline is buried at Old Ebenezer Cemetery in Jefferson County, Pennsylvania at section 1, row 14 plot 4. References Some sources list the date of death as June 16, 1944 incorrectly.
