Pilot T. B. Bash (survived) Radio ARM1C Wilson J. Cooper, 2659574 (MIA / KIA) VA Gunner AMM1C John M. Cook (survived) Crashed November 1, 1943 Aircraft History Built by Grumman. Delivered to the U.S. Navy (USN) as TBF-1C Avenger bureau number 24422. Wartime History Assigned to USS Saratoga (CV-3) to squadron VT-12. No known nickname, nose art or squadron number. Mission History On November 1, 1943 took off from USS Saratoga piloted by T. B. Bash on a strike against Buka Airfield. Crashed overboard on take off, two of the crew were rescued and one was killed in the crash. Memorials Cooper was officially declared dead the day of the mission. He is memorialized at Manila American Cemetery on the tablets of the missing.
