Aircraft History Built by Grumman as a model G-40. Constructors Number 5345. Delivered to the U.S. Navy (USN) as TBF-1C Avenger bureau number 24462. Disassembled and loaded as cargo aboard Dalfonn as cargo and shipped across the Pacific as part of defense aid to New Zealand. Wartime History Assigned to the Royal New Zelaand Air Force (RNZAF) as Avenger serial number NZ2510. On October 25, 1943 reassembled by No.1 Aircraft Depot (1 AD) at Hobsonville Airfield with Unit 36. Assigned to No. 30 Squadron. Tail code J. No known nickname or nose art. On January 24, 1944 took off from New Zealand on a flight northward to Espiritu Santo and operated there during February to March 1944. Next flown via the Solomon Islands to Piva North Airfield on Bougainville in March 1944. On March 25, 1944, damaged by enemy gunfire and made an emergency landing at Green Island Airfield (Nissan). Remained there until repaired and then continued to operate from Bougainville. Postwar On September 7, 1945 assigned to the Royal Navy (RN) Fleet Air Arm (FAA) at Hobsonville Airfield.
