Assigned to Carrier Air Group 11 (CAG-11) to Bombing Squadron 21 (VB-21). No known nickname or nose art. Squadron number "T 112".
On June 5, 1943 took off from Henderson Field on Guadalcanal piloted by Lt(jg) Robert Jefferson "Porky" Snell on a bombing mission against Japanese shipping between Shortland and Bougainviille. When this aircraft failed to return it was officially declared Missing In Action (MIA).
The entire crew was officially declared dead on January 5, 1946. All are memorialized on the tablets of the missing at Manila American Cemetery. Wood also has a memorial marker at Riverview Cemetery in Washburn, ND at plot O-122.
