Aircraft History Built by Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation (CAC). Constructor Number 176. Delivered to the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) as CA-7 Wirraway serial number A20-176. Wartime History On November 22, 1940 received by 1 Air Depot (1AD). On November 28, 1940 assigned to No. 4 Squadron with fuselage code D. The left side of the nose had the nose art of a Pegasus winged horse in white. On August 22, 1941 took off from Canberra Airfield (Fairbairn) piloted by P/O Purniss on a flight to Narromine to ferry back pilots but due to bad weather remained overnight. On August 23, 1941 took off from Narromine Airfield piloted by P/O Purniss transporting F/O Pank with Wirraway A20-174 and returns to Canberra Airfield (Fairbairn). On March 7, 1942 while taxing, damaged the left wingtip in a collision with the support for camouflage netting and afterwards repaired. On November 8, 1942 arrives 12 Mile Drome (Berry) near Port Moresby. On November 9, 1942 assigned to 12 Repair Salvage Unit (12 RSU) and nine days later returned to No. 4 Squadron. Circa December 1942 photographed parked at Popondetta Airfield. On March 22, 1943 suffered an engine failure and force landed at Walgou Airfield then repaired. On April 30, 1943 took off piloted by Sgt. L. A. Stephens, 405608 gunner WAG, Sgt. B. Dempsey, 403816 suffered a midair collision with Wirraway A20-98 and force landed at Bankstown. Afterwards, to Clyde Engineering for repairs and modification to dive bomber specifications. On October 28, 1943 assigned to 5 SFTS. On December 27, 1943 to CFS. On February 21, 1944 returned to 5 SFTS. On March 13, 1944 seriously damaged and returned to Clyde Engineering for repairs. On October 26, 1944 assigned to 2 Operational Training Unit (2 OTU). On November 15, 1945 assigned to 7 Air Depot (7 AD). Postwar On September 17, 1948 approved for transfer to the Royal Australian Navy (RAN). On April 20, 1949 transfered from Tocumwal Airfield to the Fleet Air Arm (FAA). Ultimate fate unknown, likely scrapped or otherwise disappeared.
