Wartime History
Delivered to the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) as
CA-16 Wirraway serial number A20-695. Assigned to 5 SFTS.
Postwar
Stored at CAC Fishermans Bend plant for CA-28 Ceres production but was never used. During 1963 sold as surplus for scrap mettle. In November 1963 purchased by Gordon Scrap Metals in Werribee, Victoria.
During March 1960, sold again. In 1970, purchased by by Pearce Dunn / Warbirds Aviation Museum in Mildura, Victoria, 1970-1982. In 1982, sold to Jack McDonald in Melbourne and placed into storage. In 1986, purchased by Ed Field / David Jones in Melbourne, Victoria.
Restoration
During 1991, restored at RAAF Point Cook. During 1993, owned by Ed Field / Mustang Fighter Trust and restoration continued at Caboolture Warplane Museum during 1994 until the restoration was completed in 1997. On January 21, 1997 registered in Australia as VH- MFW. During 1999, purchased by Warplanes Pty Ltd.
Display
This Wirraway is today displayed at Caboolture Warplane Museum and operates from Caboolture Airport.
