American units based at Bankstown 49th FG, HQ ?–April 16, 1942 departs Batchelor 49th FG, 7th FS (P-40) mid February 1942–March 1942 41st FS, 35th FG (P-39) Mount Gambier arrives April 7, 1942–July 20, 1942 departs 7-Mile Drome Today Still in use today as Bankstown Airport or Sydney Bankstown Airport as a public airport for civilian aviation. Bankstown Airport has three runways. The first runway is oriented 29C/11C measures 4,644' x 98' surfaced with asphalt. The second runway is oriented 29L/11R measures 3,419' x 75' surfaced with asphalt. The third runway is oriented 29R/11L measures 3,609' x 98' surfaced with asphalt.
