Location
Kwanghan Airfield was located at Kwanghan (Guang-han, 廣漢) near Cheng Tu (Chengtu, 成都) in Szechuan Province in China.
Construction
Built using thousands of Chinese laborers as bases for B-29 Superfortreess bombers.
Wartime History
On April 24, 1944 the first two B-29 Superfortress to fly over the "Hump" to China is a B-29 piloted by Brigadier General
LaVern G Saunders, Commanding General 58th Bombardment Wing (Very Heavy), arrives
at Kwanghan. Accompanying is another B-29 is another carrying Major General Kenneth B Wolfe, Commanding General 20th Bomber Command. Developed as a forward base for the 444th Bombardment Group.
