Location
Lat 116°26'0" Long 39°48'0" Located near Bejing (Peking). Known as "Nan Yuen" in Wade Giles and "Nan Yuan" in Pinyin.

Construction
In 1904, this parade ground hosted a demonstration by two French airplanes. In 1910, the Manchu government turned the field into the first formal airfield in China. The next year, the Manchu Dynasty was overthrown during the Chinese Revolution. In 1913, the Republican government established the first flying school in China at the airfield, using French Caudron aircraft.

Wartime History
During the Second Sino-Japanese War, the city and airfield were captured by the Japanese Army on July 29, 1937. They expanded Nan Yuan Airfield and the Japanese Navy used the airfield to stage bombing raids into the interior of China.

During the Pacific War, known to the Allies as "Nan Yuan", also known as Peiping, Chingho, Fengtai, Lantilnchang, Nanyuan.
