Lat 31.9963 Long 118.8127 Located just outside of the old city wall of Nanking (Nanjing). Known as "Big Parade Ground"
(大校場). Also known as "Tachiaochang" or "Nanking Airfield".
Construction
Built prewar. Use by the Chinese Air Force.
Wartime History
On November 21, 1938 the Soviet Union supplied twenty-three Polikarpov I-16's in Soviet markings to aid Chinese Communist forces that landed at Nanking Airfield under the command of Komandir G. M. Prokofiv. The next day they entered combat, seven scrambling at 1pm and attacked a formation of A5M4 Claudes from the 13th Kokutai and Type 92 bombers from the 12th Kokutai.
Later in the war, occupied by Japanese forces until the end of the war.
