Location Param Airfield is located on the southern coast of Param Island in Chuuk State (Truk) in Federated States of Micronesia. Construction The Japanese built a 335' x 3,900' airfield built during June 1943 primarily as a bomber base. 15 revetments for about 50 aircraft. There were no repair facilities because the airfield was hastily built. Wartime History The aerodrome and anti-aircraft positions were manned by the 48th Naval Guard. American missions against Param Airfield November 22, 1944 - May 12, 1945 Japanese units based at Parman 958th Kokutai (F1M2 Pete) Rabaul arrives January 1944 Boneyard Located on the northwest end of the island is a Japanese aircraft graveyard along the beach for 200 yards. Wreckage of various fighters and bombers were dumped here after being destroyed or damaged during air attacks. Postwar, aircraft wreckage was dumped to extend the seawall and 'sqare' off the island to allow the runway to be extended. Contribute
