Location Lhoknga Airfield is located at Lhoknga on the northwestern tip of Sumatra Island. Also known as Lho'nga or Lho'gna. Prewar and during the Pacific War, a Dutch colony known as the Netherlands East Indies (NEI). Today located in Ache Province of Indonesia. Construction Built prewar by the Dutch as an emergency airfield. Wartime History On January 15, 1942 five B-17s landed at Lhoknga Airfield returning from a mission against against Sungei Patani Airfield in Malaysia. While landing, B-17D 40-3061 piloted by Major Combs blew the tail wheel tire and was repaired using a Dutch truck tire. After being refueled and repaired, they returned to Malang Airfield on Java.
