Location Lat 5° 52' 27N Long 95° 20' 23E Sabang Airfield is located southeast of Sabang on Weh Island (Pulau We) in Ache Province off the northwest tip Sumatra Island. Known to the Japanese as Savan Airfield. Today known as Maimun Saleh Airport. Wartime Usage During 1942, occupied by the Japanese and used as a military airfield. Used by the Japanese until the end of the Pacific War. Today Still in use today as Maimun Saleh Airport named in honor of Akngkatan Udara Republik Indonesia (AURI) Indonesain Air Force pilot Maimun Saleh, who died August 1952 in a plane crash at Bogor. Today, it is considered to be Indonesia's westernmost and northernmost airport. The single runway is oriented 28/10 and measures 6,050' x 98' surfaced with asphalt at an elevation of 393' above sea level. Airport codes: ICAO: WITB, IATA: SBG.
